A greatly objective method of describing technology transfers from space technology based on patent indicators was developed for the present investigation. The study is not only aimed at providing new data material in conjunction with the political discussion but also at answering the question in which sectors of space flight research a particularly favorable or unfavorable spin-off situation should be expected. The background, therefore, is a purely pragmatic interest in an optimum utilization of resources in space research
